Embracing the Natural Sway: The Beauty of Motion in Body and Mind

Updated: Jul 4, 2024

The body is constantly in motion. It always vibrates. Even if you do nothing, your heart beats autonomously, blood flows, food is broken down, absorbed, and digested, cells divide and regenerate, and natural healing processes are at work. There is wholeness in this. It is perfect. The mind is the same.

The mind is never without motion. Even if you feel calm, the mind is always gently stirring. Sometimes, it moves vigorously. Just like the body. It sways like a tree branch in the wind. A tree branch is never completely still. It stretches towards the sun and continuously adapts to its environment. This vibration signifies life. This vibration is the manifestation of life. And it is beautiful because it sways. The fleeting nature of this motion makes it shine because it exists only at that moment.

If you reject this motion, you cannot truly be alive. The fact that we are always vibrating is our true nature, our as-it-is-ness. Because we are always in motion, you cannot capture it even if you try. Trying to be still is inherently impossible. This is the nature of being human.

So, when you feel your mind shaking, do not resist it. Let it sway. The confusion and suffering arise when you analyze and cling to the content of the sway, wondering why this is happening or thinking it should be this way or that. The mind is meant to move. The more you try to control this motion, the more confusion, anxiety, and suffering will increase and prolong. By letting the mind sway freely, you will eventually find peace and tranquility. It is a paradox indeed🤣. It is okay to sway; just do not dwell on the content.

For instance, thoughts like "Why did this happen?", "I should have done this", "I must do that", or "What if this happens?" are unnecessary add-ons. The mind is simply doing its job as given by nature. Just let it be. This way, everything will naturally align itself. The mind, as well as the body, possesses homeostasis, the ability to maintain stability, a characteristic of living beings. The mind is perfect in its own way, which is reassuring.

To internalize this perfectness, we sit in meditation. Intellectual understanding can only go so far. Sitting is a practice to allow the mind to be as it is. In time, you will come to a deep, clear understanding. So, let us sit together.🙏🏻

they are beautiful as they are, SONOMAMA (as-it-is-ness).
